The oldest documents in the record of the U.S. District Court, Territory of New Mexico, First Judicial District, Santa Fe, are in this series. They relate to the Taos Revolt of 1847 against the American army of occupation during the Mexican-American War. Case 4 "United State of America" vs. Antonio Trujillo," is the most complete of these files with the 1847 indictment for treason, summons, exhibits, consisting of supposedly insurrectionary letters; a jury verdict of guilty, a sentence of death, and a plea of mercy for the defendant after sentence was passed.
